The architectural firm Oblique, based in Athens since 2018 and founded by Stella Livieratou and Dimitris Hatzioakimides, experts in the subject with studies and experience in Greece and abroad, undertook the design, supervision and construction of a project winning the Interior design award in Grail Awards in the category of apartments under 100 sq.m.
This is project example #1, which concerns the renovation of a 36 sq.m. in a 1970s building in Vouliagmeni. They dared and managed to change it completely, essentially presenting a new creation with a radical change in the floor plan of the space. The reason for this project was the extremely limited space, which was treated as a "white canvas" after the removal of the partitions within the space. The original goal was, clearly, for the space to serve the needs of the user, but at the same time to avoid the creation of a standard apartment in miniature.
It helped a lot that the changes made to the space created a rectangle as a base, which enabled the architects to incorporate into it a miniature of a classic apartment with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The only difference would be that the square footage of each space would be smaller. Based on the data that existed in the property, the new creation was based on the priorities of the use of the spaces, that is, what is considered most important for the user in the specific square meters and weight was given to the feeling that each room exudes, leaving the feeling that it is bigger than it is in fact. The idea was crowned with success by "boxing" the secondary uses, i.e. the built-in appliances, the furniture that went into this architecture they call the "blue box" with the main uses, i.e. the bedroom and the bathroom and maximizing the "daytime" spaces, namely the living room and the kitchen. This made the apartment look practically twice as large.
This whole concept was treated as oversized furniture-architecture and bought by the client. The correlation of square meters with the expensive Real Estate market was a source of inspiration for the architectural firm during the financial crisis. In essence, they looked for ways of better "micro-living", offering the market not just a common compact apartment, but a special philosophy and school of architecture, a luxury project, always based on an architectural perspective, as it has applications in other spaces, in which it can one to live the experience of inhabiting such a small space with the most favorable conditions. That is why the project was given the name "paradigm".
