A national drink of the Spaniards, sangria is not just a daily drink of the inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula, but one of the most popular and well-known drinks worldwide. It is said that those who invented the sangria were the Romans 2,000 years ago when they conquered the Spanish territories. After their conquest, the Roman soldiers planted vines in the Spanish provinces, and because the water of the areas was not drinkable, they began to mix water with wine in order to drink it. This mix was the first form of the so-called sangria.
The name sangria comes from the word sang which means blood and reminds of the dark red color it has. In the early years it was made with water, wine and spices, while gradually it began to be enriched with various fruits. The important thing is that there is no specific and formal recipe, so everyone makes it as they wish and adapts it to their taste preferences.
Dazzling appearance, with pieces of fruit and refreshing taste, sangria is one of the most popular summer drinks.
